The government of India on Tuesday announced compensation package — token assistance to the families of the victims who were killed or injured following an attack on the Indian consulate in eastern Jalalabad city of Afghanistan.

The Indian ambassador to Afghanistan Amar Sinha during his visit to eastern Nangarhar province said the each family of the victims will receive $10,000, the Indian daily newspaper The Hindu reported.

Mr. Sinha also said that a reward of $20,000 will be given for the Afghan security personnel who were on duty outside the Consulate when the attack took place.

In addition, $2,000 were announced for the Afghan soldier, who gunned down one of the suicide bombers, and stopped the attackers in their tracks, Amar Sinha said.

The ambassador during his visit met with the provincial governor and families of the victims who were killed during the attacks. At least 9 people including children were killed following the attack while they were returning after studying Quran.

He also said that New Delhi would handover $20,000 to the local government for the treatment of those who were injured in the attack. Another $10,000 would be given to the local government for the repair of the mosques which were damaged during bombings.
